The ‘Ruddington Yarn Ninjas’ are appealing for villagers’ help after their knitted Royal Balcony scene was ripped off the railings of St Peter’s Church last night (Sunday 29th May)*.
*GOOD NEWS – UPDATE BELOW!
The display was one of dozens meticulously crafted and put in place recently around our village in a ‘Yarn Bomb’ for residents and visitors to enjoy during the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations. Now it seems someone thought it would be amusing to tear it down.
Despite very secure fixings, the damaged artwork was discovered lying on the ground in Church Street and retrieved by dismayed ‘Handmade in Ruddington’ members this morning. They are pledging to repair the balcony and get it back up as soon as possible. However, three of the knitted Royal figures it featured – William, Harry and Sophie – are now missing.
Liz Dean says: “If anyone discovers them please can they message us via our Facebook page to return them ASAP – as our dedicated knitter is poised to try and do them again. Last time a reindeer was found on a flat roof so please check around. Such a shame… as people were still having their photos taken with it at the weekend.”
If you witnessed anyone acting suspiciously (or in an antisocial manner) on Church Street last night, think you know who did this, or have CCTV footage or information which might help, you can also contact Nottinghamshire Police online >>HERE<<, by calling them on 101 or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
*UPDATE: 31st MAY 2022
RUDDINGTON.info is delighted to report the three missing figures ‘reappeared’ at the church railings this morning.
After spotting Sophie, Harry and William lying there first thing today, Katie Santana retrieved and handed them in to Grange News for safe keeping – to be collected later by Christine Hawkins for reinstatement into her Royal tapestry with the other, knitted family members.
No further questions are being asked: There’s simply gratitude that someone with a conscience has done the right thing!
The temporarily absent Royal Balcony scene is now back up on St Peter’s Church railings for all to enjoy again – with the ‘Ruddington Yarn Ninjas’ very much hoping that’s where it will now remain until the end of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
